Can you believe it? NetApp Insight Las Vegas is only a few short weeks away! As we start to work on our session schedules (or at least we should be!), I’d like to suggest one special session that I think is this year’s do-not-miss event: Women in Technology (WIT).

This year at NetApp Insight marks the fifth annual WIT event. For those of you who aren’t familiar with WIT, I encourage you to listen to this Tech ONTAP podcast. WIT is an organization at NetApp made up of both men and women who are committed to helping women grow in their technical careers and to exposing young women to career opportunities in the technology fields.

It was founded in 2009 and has since grown to a worldwide organization of more than 1,000 members across 12 geographical sites. WIT has volunteers from many departments at NetApp (not just engineering) who work as site leaders to help with mentoring, networking, and professional development. WIT’s goals include influencing the corporate organization to embrace gender diversity in the workplace and encouraging young women to study STEM.

This year’s WIT event will feature guest speaker Carey Lohrenz, the first female U.S. Navy F-14 Tomcat fighter pilot (yes, really!!). Carey is also the author of the Wall Street Journal best-seller, Fearless Leadership: High-Performance Lessons from the Flight Deck.

As a woman working in a dynamic, fast-paced, and challenging environment dominated by men (sound familiar?), she’s got lots of amazing stories to tell. In this session, she’ll share her experience and talk to us about how to be successful leaders in our industry. Carey’s story is inspiring and demonstrates that being successful in a demanding environment is not dependent on our gender—you create your own success story!

That’s what makes this event so unique. With today’s lack of women represented in the technology business, especially in leadership positions, Carey’s story is sure to resonate with everyone in attendance, especially young women!

RSVPs are required, so if you’re as excited as I am for this event, sign up today! To book this session, search “women” on the Schedule Builder.
