In addition to achieving this milestone, NetApp was recently recognized as the #3 company on the Great Place to Work’s World’s Best list for the fourth consecutive year. NetApp employees worldwide can join in celebrating our unique culture.

Creators of the methodology behind the list, Great Place to Work® has found that employees believe they work for great organizations when they consistently trust the people they work for, have pride in what they do, and enjoy the people they work with. The selection process for the 100 Best Companies list includes a survey sent to a random sample of employees and an in-depth questionnaire about their programs and company practices.

What keeps NetApp on this list year after year?

It’s our values and the exceptional people who work here! NetApp’s values are the foundation of our culture, and our employees are at the heart of our culture. You won’t find the NetApp values only in an employee handbook-you’ll find them being practiced every day throughout every level of the organization. These values help us work in an environment of trust and respect that results in a workplace in which employees feel appreciated for their ideas and contributions, not just by their peers, but by the leadership team. Here’s how we do it:


  • Living Our Values (aka LOV) Awards: These annual, peer-nominated awards recognize individuals and teams who are inspiring examples of living the company’s values and delivering success for customers, partners and communities. Three individuals are chosen each year and are recognized by NetApp Chairman of the Board and CEO Tom Georgens at a company-wide meeting. Let us introduce you to a recent recipient.
  • Catch Someone Doing Something Right: NetApp Vice Chairman Tom Mendoza encourages employees to inform leadership of employees who going above and beyond. Mr. Mendoza makes 30 to 40 phone calls a week on behalf of the company to thank these employees for specific contributions. Employees often say that this phone call is an unexpected surprise that inspires and motivates them.

NetApp continues to inspire and engage employees through unique programs and practices that help us share the traditions of our culture and drive success through activities such as these:


  • Innovation Challenge: This company-wide 48-hour competition for teams of employees enables them to brainstorm, build, and pitch their most innovative ideas to NetApp experts. Projects can focus on anything that benefits NetApp customers or partners. The audience and a panel of judges choose the winners. NetApp teams have the opportunity not only to have fun but also to directly impact the business-their ideas may inspire the company to execute on a new NetApp® product or solution.
  • Guiding Coalition: Employee volunteers at NetApp participate in a yearlong grassroots initiative that brings together a cross-functional team of individuals who are passionate about establishing change and taking action in areas critical to the business. All volunteers have the opportunity to lead teams, regardless of their job level or position.
