Today, I’m excited to announce the availability of in the eu-west-2 (London), eu-central-1 (Frankfurt) and ap-southeast-2 (Sydney) regions. Building on our existing foot print in North America and Dublin, Ireland, we are steadily expanding the Cloud Volumes Service worldwide to help our customers implement their cloud strategies.

Businesses all over the world are embracing the cloud in order to respond faster to customer demands and outpace the competition. The customers that I talk to are looking for fast file-storage performance that is highly available, fault tolerant, and more scalable than traditional datacenter infrastructures. BUT they don’t want to administer it! Many of my conversations are with people who don’t know storage and don’t want to know storage. This is why NetApp introduced NetApp Cloud Volumes for AWS, a fully-managed file storage service.

The NetApp and Amazon strategic partnership combines NetApp’s world-class data services with Amazon’s  global infrastructure built around Regions and Availability Zones. NetApp handles the configuring and managing of the storage infrastructure. AWS gives customers the complete control and ownership over the region in which their data is physically located, making it easy to meet regional compliance and data residency requirements. Cloud Volumes Service is a great fit for developers, line- of-business (LOB) engineers, database administrators, and application architects who consume storage capacity but don’t want to know storage and, more importantly, don’t care…

As our global customers grow their cloud presence, we will continue to provide the services they want in the global regions they need. Today, Cloud Volumes Service for AWS can be found in these regions:

  • us-east-1 in Virginia
  • us-west-1in California
  • us-west-2 in Oregon
  • eu-central-1 in Frankfurt Germany
  • eu-west-1 in Dublin, Ireland
  • eu-west-2 in London, England
  • ap-southeast-2 in Sydney, Australia
  • ap-northeast-1 in Tokyo, Japan (coming soon)

In the future, users will be able to use NetApp Cloud Sync and an AWS Direct Connect Gateway to replicate data between each of these regions for additional protection of resources.

I’m excited that the Cloud Volume Services momentum continues to grow, and customers all over the world who need storage but don’t want to administer it, can just point-and-go in less than 10 minutes.
