The joint technology partnership delivers cloud-scale analytics with cloud-scale storage for NetApp’s enterprise customers.

Xcalar and NetApp are partnering to provide customers with a powerful, self-service solution for business analysts, data scientists, and line-of-business managers to understand and discover insights from their data on NetApp ONTAP and NetApp Cloud Volumes Service. With Xcalar Data Platform, NetApp users can explore all of their business data without copying or moving the data. Xcalar leverages all the resiliency, availability, scalability, and performance built into NetApp storage and extends it with a simple, powerful, and easy-to-use data analytics solution.

Xcalar provides an open and extensible analytics platform that delivers actionable insights with simplicity, speed, and scale. Its patented technologies are used in building a cloud-scale platform for the complete analytics pipeline, including data preparation, data science, data warehousing, and ad hoc analytics. Based on its patented True Data In Place™ technology, Xcalar Data Platform keeps data in its original form on the NetApp storage platform. This retains all the data management abilities, reliability, and efficiency expected from NetApp. Processed data and analytics result sets can be written directly back to the user’s NetApp storage. All data including dataflow models, system logs, and user-defined functions are stored on NetApp, providing a true separation of storage and compute for scaling resources to meet analytics needs.

NetApp’s and Xcalar’s joint solution fully leverages the capabilities of NetApp’s ONTAP, the industry’s leading enterprise data management software, with Xcalar’s powerful data analytics capabilities and storage efficiency. Additionally with Xcalar, NetApp’s Cloud Volumes Service users can now build a powerful data analytics platform across a hybrid data storage cloud that spans flash, disk, and cloud. NetApp users can also seamlessly manage their data as it flows to where it is needed most, to help make the best possible decisions for the user’s organization. For example, a NetApp user can deploy one Xcalar cluster in their test and development storage environment to model Xcalar dataflows, then operationalize by seamlessly deploying dataflows in their production storage environment on a separate Xcalar cluster, taking advantage of NetApp Snapshot and Cloning to maximize efficiency and eliminate redundant data copies.
