Geo region location is a key determining factor in selecting a cloud data service. I’m pleased to announce that in addition to the US-East-4 region, Cloud Volumes Service for Google Cloud Platform will soon be available in the US-Central-1 region. We’re adding this region to help customers deploy file data services and applications nearer to their own customers, for lower latency and increased responsiveness.

The cloud has become the agile and innovative platform for business. Cloud adoption continues to grow as enterprises recognize the cloud’s strategic business value. When I talk with customers about their cloud experiences, the conversation frequently turns to their struggle in  moving their enterprise applications to the cloud and managing their cloud infrastructure. What started out as a way to reduce IT infrastructure by migrating to the cloud can become an ever-growing and complex tangle of cloud compute, storage, and applications.

To help customers move their enterprise applications to the cloud faster and easier and manage applications running in the cloud more efficiently, NetApp and Google Cloud joined forces to deliver a powerful and secure file data service running on Google Cloud, called NetApp® Cloud Volumes for GCP. The service, which uses the Google Cloud Platform user interface, is supported by Google. NetApp Cloud Volumes for GCP is a fully managed, cloud-native file storage service that helps to manage file storage infrastructure on Google Cloud, speeds migration of enterprise applications to the cloud, and simplifies management of applications in the cloud.

This expansion of the service into the US-Central-1 region, along with the existing service in the US-East-4 region, includes all the unique features of the service, like:

  • Integration into the GCP console
  • Supported by Google
  • Multiprotocol NFSv3 and SMB file protocols
  • Three performance levels that can be changed on the fly
  • Efficient NetApp Snapshot™ copies and rapid clones

These features support free-flowing data, allowing cloud architects and developers to accelerate workspace creation and build cycles nearer to our customers, providing lower latency and greater responsiveness. The service is ideal for enterprise applications that require NFS or SMB file services, analytics, databases, and DevOps workloads.

We look forward to welcoming you to the US-Central-1 region, and we’re excited to see what you will do with our file data service. Our Cloud Volumes Global Regions locations page provides updates on the availability of additional regions. For more information, check out Cloud Volumes Service for GCP.
